>Gregg_Bigourdin: EILNRSV 8D SILVERN +72 72
>Arie_Sinke: DERTTWY E7 W.TTY +22 22
#note Tough start to the game. I didn't even see TWENTY J5 for 28. However, WITTY is better and it's clear.
>Gregg_Bigourdin: AQ 10C QA. +12 84
>Arie_Sinke: BDEGHIR D2 BRIDGE. +27 49
#note I played BRIDGES quite quickly and the fact that it took a front A hook didn't occur to me. The hook makes it a very volatile play and a bit too risky, even with a deficit. The sim winner is SEABIRD D8 for 29, which makes a lot of sense. It scores 2 more, and keeps the G with the H, which is more than a two point liability, but I would rather set up an S hook than an A hook.
>Gregg_Bigourdin: ?AAEMOR 1D AMAROnE +90 174
>Arie_Sinke: EEHIINN 2J HEINIE +47 96
#note I get punished for playing BRIDGES. HINNIE looks slightly better than HEINIE; the E is just a slightly better tile to keep than the N. HINNIE was not on my radar.
>Gregg_Bigourdin: EKR O1 R.EK +39 213
>Arie_Sinke: AJNPSYZ L1 Z.PS +50 146
#note I can play ZIPS, leaving JANNY J6 for next turn, or JANNY right now, leaving ZIPS for next turn. Neither play, of course, is sure to materialize. I opted for the play that secured the slightly higher score first. Quackle thinks I should play JANNY first, likely because PSZ is a massively better leave than anything with a J and no S, and I may not have great options if JANNY gets blocked.
>Gregg_Bigourdin: ?AELNTU H8 .vENTUAL +74 287
>Arie_Sinke: AJNOUVY 5B JU.Y +30 176
#note Now I eschew JANNY because the OUV leave is so atrocious. Of course, the leave I retain (ANOV) is better but still not what I'm looking for. It's really hard to judge what to do here, but ther may be some merit to playing JURY 3B for two fewer points instead to leave the D open. Something like DEVONIAN gets me within striking distance. At least that's what Quackle thinks, take it with a grain of salt. JANNY also may still be better than my play.
>Gregg_Bigourdin: ALNOOST 15A STANOLO. +77 364
>Arie_Sinke: AEENOPV F6 VE.A +23 199
#note STANOLOL is phoney. I accepted it because I was familiar with STANOL and SANTALOL and bought into this illegitimate hybrid of the two. Not a good moment for me. VELA isn't terrible but PROVE 3C is probably a bit better simply for the improved leave.
>Gregg_Bigourdin: DEOW 2D .OWED +41 405
>Arie_Sinke: EHINOPR 14H .PHORINE +92 291
>Arie_Sinke: EHINOPR -- -92 199
#note I thought the time had come to make up a word. I thought it might be hard to challenge in this position given that I would come within 114 points with a triple triple open. I overestimated my bluffing ability here.
>Gregg_Bigourdin: ACEOT J6 CO.ATE +16 421
>Arie_Sinke: EHINOPR C10 .OPH +36 235
#note CONATE isn't good. This game doesn't reflect particularly well on me. Too demoralized by my massive margin of defeat to challenge. QOPH is fine.
>Gregg_Bigourdin: ABFIORU 13G F.B +15 436
>Arie_Sinke: EGIINRU 2B UN..... +26 261
#note This play is not particular good. IRING 3C scores 33 and undoubles the Is.
>Gregg_Bigourdin: LOX K9 LOX +42 478
>Arie_Sinke: EGIIORT 3B TO.I +19 280
#note I don't know, this looks okay to me but Quackle hates it.
>Gregg_Bigourdin: FGI A12 FIG. +12 490
>Arie_Sinke: EGIIMRU D12 EM +23 303
#note No idea what to do. I don't love this game situation. I have just fallen to 1-4 in the tournament. Looking forward to this shellacking being over and moving on to round 6. ODIUM H1 for 9 points is obviously a massively better play, but I don't care anymore.
>Gregg_Bigourdin: AI M1 A.I +25 515
>Arie_Sinke: DDGIIRU 4G DRUID. +9 312
#note This is okay because it blocks ANCRESS/CASERNS, Gregg's only outs. GUIDS is a bit better because it goes out next turn for more points (threatens RAID 14G for 19).
>Gregg_Bigourdin: ACENRS J13 SAC +16 531
>Arie_Sinke: GI B5 .IG +13 325
#note Fine.
>Arie_Sinke: (ENR) +6 331
