#player1 Evan_Chester Evan Chester
#player2 Samuel_Kaplan Samuel Kaplan
>Evan_Chester: AEILSUU -IUU +0 0
#note S - Looks fine, close with exchanging AUU. I like keeping AELS here to avoid potentially having 2 Is.
E - best
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?AEEINT 8B TAENIaE +64 64
#note I liked duplicating not 1, but 2 letters here, which is why I chose this bingo over all others. TAENItE accomplishes something similar except it gives up an S hook whereas this doesn't.
>Evan_Chester: AEELNSX 9B EX +36 36
#note S - Evan had F4 ALEX(I)NES available for 69 here.
E - ALEXINES is a word that I knew and I can't afford to be missing. I didn't even properly look for a bingo. 9B AXLE is very close with 9B EX
>Samuel_Kaplan: AAMOTUY 7A YUM +29 93
#note Since there's nothing I can really do to block Evan's new threat, I saw some nice parallels on Row 7 that can score nicely. B2 AUTOMA(TE) is a nice way to clean up the rack and surprisingly sims ahead of these Row 7 reparallels, however I think my idea of Row 7 plays is still better. 7C MAUT is a better version to basically force him to bingo immediately. #visionmedium
>Evan_Chester: AAELLNS 6A AL +15 51
#note S - That's a nice setup for his leave, especially given he has the ELUTE hook on his rack.
E - Best
>Samuel_Kaplan: AADOPRT 7F ADAPTOR +73 166
#note I did see H3 TAPAD(E)RO which could have allowed me to play a seemingly rare 8 this tournament. The only issue is too many real points would be replaced with style points, and I'm just not in a position to do that.
>Evan_Chester: AELNRSW F6 W..L +15 66
#note S - Seems like I accidentally blocked RENEWALS on Column H. A1 LANEW(AY) is a nice play for 42 here. That is definitely worth it over this 2nd S setup.
E - I didn't know LANEWAY was a word. 8K REWAN is a scoring play I should have found but I fished here when I probably shouldn't have. Even then, G7 DaW and F6 WAIN are more efficient at creating bingo threats.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ANNQTUW K3 WANT.N +18 184
#note I liked this play a lot to go through more tiles while ahead to try drawing 1 of the 4 remaining Ss as well as maybe draw into L1 QUOD. That A Column is still open though!
>Evan_Chester: ADENNRS 3K .AND +16 82
#note S - He is setting up S hooks, but there's not much I can do.
E - Seems best, not much else to do here
>Samuel_Kaplan: GGLOQUU L1 QU.G +54 238
#note But what I can do is score and go about my plan because I got this to work with. And hopefully I can score with the Q again.
>Evan_Chester: AEENPRS A9 REPANES +90 172
#note S - 5A PE is his best legal play. Kudos to him for playing this phony while I'm up 2 bingoes. I can't be scared to challenge things like this. Will I be able to weather a storm and not be on the other end of a massive collapse? Or will I be like several other past opponents when they all blew 100+ point leads against me?
E - I saw PANEERS on my rack instantly but that doesn't fit and I spent like 4 minutes on this position, unsure of what the hell to do. I took time to look through the D for a bingo and realized that was REPANED* + S, which obviously means I have REPANES* on my rack right? Lucky to get away with this since I'd be completely sunk if this was challenged
>Samuel_Kaplan: GLORSTU 5B GLUT +16 254
#note I mean at this point, the 8 more unseen Is are a problem, so I think that B12 GUL should have been the play to minimize my odds of a bad draw. It is simming at the top with O1 GUSTO to take out the dangerous WANDS hook. #findingsmall
>Evan_Chester: ACHIOSU O1 COSH +48 220
#note S - This play isn't bad, but I like 1L (Q)UAI a lot better with this pool. CHOS can survive some bad draws and he gets to keep his S for the WANDS hook and ADAPTORS hook.
E - I didn't see QUAI as an option and I like that option better now that I see it. I was moreso in shock that I was somehow still in this game
>Samuel_Kaplan: EIIOORS 11A .OORI +14 268
#note I could do B11 OI. I didn't want to fall into a vicious cycle of fishing, not scoring anything, and allowing Evan to catch up to me. Quackle approves of this one, although a case could be made for doing 10C IRIS for 15 more points. I still like my play because of the ADAPTORS hook which I have.
>Evan_Chester: ADEEIIV D11 .IVED +22 242
#note S - I like L7 (R)EIVED to get more stuff off his rack.
E - L7 REIVED is definitely best. Didn't scan the board properly
>Samuel_Kaplan: BEEIORS 15D .OBIE +24 292
#note There is also 6H BOI(T)E for the same score, but I still get to keep the ADAPTORS hook open for myself. Good thing I didn't have to debate whether 15A (S)OBERISE* was good after it got blocked!
>Evan_Chester: ABEIOVZ D2 ZEB. +30 272
#note S - I think 14G BAIZE is the play here. It's almost a tie game after that and he gets more cracks at the unseen blank.
E - Another board vision lapse on my end. Didn't see the spot, which is fairly costly
>Samuel_Kaplan: EIMORRS N3 .ORM +18 310
#note Many reasonable options here. Now that the pool is more consonant heavy than before, 2A SEI(Z)OR is simming very closely with B14 MI and my play. I would like to undouble my R here. My play does block the ADAPTORS hook, but EIRS is so strong of a leave that I can hit all sorts of plays on a board that is great for bingoes. That being said, Evan would have to start with a vowel if he wants to score on Column O, and his last play doesn't necessarily tell me he has a good rack.
>Evan_Chester: AIIOTUV -IIOUV +0 272
#note I hated the idea of having to play through this dreck. I figured that I couldn't properly keep pace if I kept garbage, which is unavoidable for me. The best equity play is 6I OUTA, which I didn't see, but I still think that is too slow. Definitely can be debated but I don't mind my play
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEHIRST 14H HASTIER +79 389
#note And shockingly, no 8s play with this great rack. But I got lucky and he got unlucky over this sequence. Sometimes that's all it takes to win the game.
>Evan_Chester: AEEFGOT 2B FA.E +32 304
#note Win % is under 1% regardless of what I play. 2B GAZE is simming best of the options through the Z, which are clearly best
>Samuel_Kaplan: IJKORSY 1A JOY +49 438
#note Looks like the clear best play.
>Evan_Chester: DEGLOTV F2 DOG +31 335
#note Best
>Samuel_Kaplan: CIIIKRS O6 ICK +31 469
#note Quackle somehow does not like that many options that don't empty the bag. And I didn't see that many playable bingoes he could have other than VEINULET or UNVEILED on Column O.
>Evan_Chester: ?ELNTUV M8 VEiNUL.T +72 407
#note S - This is his best out bingo. 12D (I)NVoLUTE is the only other bingo that plays for him. I may have lost spread, but thankfully it did not cost me a tournament win as I am the only one in the division with 5 wins. Evan gave me another great game! Kudos to him on cutting as much spread as he did throughout the game and making it respectable. I will say I made fewer mistakes this game overall which I need to do against any good player. I will lose 7 rating points and drop to 1824. Looks like my next tournament will be Wilmington in April!
E - Best, I forgot to designate the blank and nearly played VElNULET lol. Fortunate to make this game close since spread was tight between 5 4-3 players, but my board vision was clearly off this game, and ALEXINES was an egregious miss that put me on my back foot the whole game. If I wanna compete in division 1 then I gotta clean up these errors
