#note Highest scoring bingo. L5 NEURONIC sims slightly better but I didn't know the word

>Evan_Chester: ACDEINR G1 DANCIER +69 352
#note Played this over CAIRNED since I assumed the D was the safer tile to put in the triple triple lane here. For some reason I blanked on the fact that I was sacraficing 3 points to do that. CAIRNED is 100% better

#note Punishment for my bingo mistake
>Evan_Chester: AEEEIIS A1 SEI.A +42 394
#note Blatant mistake. I should have played SEIZE but I rushed this turn. This mistake snowballed and made my next few turns harder than they should have been.

#note If I had kept the A, I could have played 15K BEAUT which would have been so much better. The best play in this position seems to be L10 NEUK, which I missed
>Brian_McCarthy: EIITTVW K9 W.T +12 360
>Evan_Chester: ?EEITUU M10 .UIsE +32 443
#note This is one of the most fascinating Scrabble positions I've been in. I looked at my options for this turn and nothing seemed good. I did miss L10 NEUK again but that doesn't seem good. The two main bingo threats on this board are the C in DANCIER and the G in SLANGING. Blocking the C is futile with these tiles. I5 ETUI does that but opens a 7s lane along its side and only scores 8 points. Definitely not the play. I then looked towards blocking the G and found this play, which feels very nonstandard. Burning the blank for 32 just feels wrong. This may have been my best play of the tournament though. I'm going up by 83 after this play. If Brian bingos immediately from the C, I'll still have a slight lead going into the endgame and I'll likely be able to hold on and win, even if Brian draws a flexible 3 tiles that let him go out. This play also leaves 3 in the bag which is great endgame timing for me. If Brian fishes off 1, I can play off 1 tile as well, and time my endgame properly. I think that trying to outrun Brian's potential bingos is much more reliable than banking on a counterbingo, even though this pool is very bingo prone. I don't have the word knowledge to find every word available, and I think outrunning is what works best for a player like me. The top suggestion by Quackle Champ is even less standard, Exchange EEIUU. I never considered exchanging in this position but I see the logic. With 7 in the bag, if Brian bingos immediately, he's guaranteed to be saddled with at least 5 vowels and I can likely win in the endgame even if my replacement draw is mediocre. The complexities spring up if he doesn't bingo immediately, but I can respond to any new opening of his with my blank. As far as plays are concerned, GUIsE is far and away the best play at 92.8% to win. The next best play is 15K ETUI at 84%, but setting up a huge S hook like then when my opponent very likely has a blank seems like a death sentence if I can't connect on a counterbingo. Every other option champ comes up with is some form of exchange. I don't fault myself for not thinking of exchanging, and as far as playing a word is concerned, I 100% made the best move.

#note Clever idea from Brian to set up his blank in a way that I can't block. The engine, however, suggests 14M EVE to open up a triple triple and create an extremely dangerous threat that I can't block for a lot of points. Champ has EVE at 48.48% to win, while IN is only 4.13%. Another cool idea that sims well is 8K TI, setting up another line and leaving 1 in the bag for me. I wonder how well I can block both lines in that situation though.
>Evan_Chester: EEOORTU D1 .O +9 452
#note I felt like I couldn't empty the bag in this position with the O column open now. Now looking at the position though, it's not 100% necessary. The highest scoring bingos he could threaten are VIMINAL/VITAMIN for 85, putting Brian at 447. In this situation I'd be drawing two 1 pointers from the bag. And would therefore need to a play that finishes +5 or higher, and there are some available. 4G COUTER, CROUTE, and COOTER all value at +10, and 2A EURO is exactly +5. Surprisingly, no words that contain the V and not the M play, so that line doesn't need to be calculated. If Brian made a play like AMITIES for 76, Brian will end at 438, so my play would need to be -4 or better. The options from the C are +4 and EURO is -1. These 4 plays are all 100% wins, however I didn't know any of the plays from the C, and calculating a 2 in the bag endgame is much harder than just playing off 1 tile and not emptying the bag, guaranteeing myself another turn. JO also wins 100%. Was a nice exercise to work through this position though.
>Brian_McCarthy: ?EIIMTV D11 V.. +13 375
#note Seems to be best, no bingos available.
>Evan_Chester: EELORTU E5 TOLU +22 474
#note Brian has an unblockable AMITIEs ready to come down, but I'm able to outrun pretty easily. 4G COULTER/CLOUTER/CLOTURE are the best endgame plays. I did see CLOUTER is this spot, but was not 100% sure it was good, and the only way I could lose the game is by playing a phony. TOLU, and the other options in the same position, are only 2 points worse than playing 6 tiles from the C. Much better to play the word you are 100% sure of in a situation like this
>Brian_McCarthy: ?AEIIMT O6 AMITIEs +76 451
#note Great game overall. Really fun ending to what is probably my favorite game of this tournament. Analyzing this pre-endgame has been so much fun. Lesson from this game is to not rush turns. The SEIZA mistake snowballed into a really dicey pre-endgame. I'm very glad I made the right plays beyond that because this def could have slipped away from me. Still super proud of GUIsE. Brian also won the bounty for high loss with this game, so there was some consolation for him.
